Lo esencial
- Check regional security advice before booking; armed groups, robbery and kidnapping affect some routes.
- CheckMig is free. The current service page calls it optional, while an imported official FAQ still says mandatory for non-land travel; completing it avoids this uncertainty.
- Keep drinks and food in sight and use pre-booked authorised transport; drug-assisted robbery is a documented risk.
Entrada y visados
Many passports qualify for short-stay visa exemption. China and India have conditional exemption with qualifying US/Schengen residence or a US/Schengen visa valid at least 180 days on entry. Other passports outside the official exemption lists need a visitor visa. Border permission determines the stay.
