Before you go to French Guiana: what to know

Must know

  • French Guiana is outside Schengen: check the separate overseas visa rules. A Schengen visa alone does not automatically permit entry.
  • Carry a yellow-fever vaccination certificate and confirm medical exceptions before travel.
  • Use EUR and bring cash for interior travel; ATMs are scarce outside major towns.

Entry and visas

French Guiana has separate overseas entry rules. Depending on nationality and residence status, you may need a territory-specific visa; Schengen permission alone is insufficient. EU/EEA/Swiss citizens are exempt for short stays. Confirm your case through France-Visas and carry onward travel, accommodation and funds evidence.

Passport validity: UK guidance: at least 3 months after planned departure. Check nationality-specific France-Visas requirements.
